State Competitiveness Commission, chaired by Professor Arnis Sauka, provides progress update to President
President Edgars Rinkēvičs met with the State Competitiveness Commission, chaired by Arnis Sauka, SSE Riga Professor and Head of the Centre for Sustainable Business at SSE Riga.
The Commission, established on October 4th, 2023, aims to enhance Latvia's competitiveness in education, science, and business.
During the meeting, the Commission provided updates on various initiatives and 6 months' progress.
One significant update focused on proposals to attract foreign lecturers strategically important to Latvia's higher education sector. By proposing amendments to the Higher Education Law to facilitate long-term collaborations with foreign experts and suggesting flexible language requirements, the Commission aims to enhance the internationalization of Latvian universities, enrich academic programs, and foster a globally inclusive environment.
Additionally, the Commission informed the President about ongoing research into the needs of Latvia's largest exporting and innovative companies, as well as proposals for better utilization of public data in research and innovation.
