In accordance with bilateral agreements on co-operation in education and science concluded between Latvian government and several countries, Latvia offers scholarships to foreign students, researchers and teaching staff for studies, research and participation in summer schools in Latvian higher education institutions.

We would like to encourage our students to apply for this scholarship as SSE Riga students are eligible to receive financial support for their studies at SSE Riga from the Latvian government. Two SSE Riga students have been granted the monthly scholarship of EUR 500 in the study year 2021/2022.

Scholarship recipient Saba Jagmaidze (pictured) is SSE Riga student from Georgia and he says: “My advice to succeed in the scholarship process is to get engaged in as many extracurricular activities as possible. Moreover, before taking up the extracurricular, be sure you comprehend its added value to your personal development as well as the contribution you make to the community. At the end of the day, the objective of this bilateral scholarship is to recognize and encourage the students who manage to harmonize their personalities with the traditions and values of the host country's society. From the day of the applicant call to the deadline, you have plenty of time to tick the required documents. In fact, you will obtain most of the documents (among which are two recommendation letters) from the university's administration and faculty, who were overly responsive and helpful to my requests!”
 

Who can apply?

Applications for the bachelor degree scholarships are accepted from the students who have successfully completed at least one academic year of studies (at their home HEI or at a Latvian HEI, if they already have been studying in Latvia) at the moment of application.

What is the amount of scholarship a student can receive?

The amount of the scholarship for studies is €500 per month for Bachelor’s and Master’s students.
 

When does the application open?

Call for applications is open every year from 1st February to 1st April. 

The application process takes place online in an electronic application system at https://scholarships.viaa.gov.lv. The application process is managed by the State Education Development Agency.
