Public Lecture: The Long Escape From the Empire – Baltic States and Their Quest for Sovereignty

Friday, September 27, 2024, 15:15 – 17:00
SSE Riga, Room 311

You are kindly invited to attend topical public lecture, organized as part of the International Politics specialization course and open to everyone interested. No sign-up is needed. Please see the details below.

This lecture provides a historical perspective on the Baltic states' current geopolitical situation. It explains how the Baltic states' long-term quest to escape the Russian zone of influence often challenges not only Moscow's imperial aspiration but also Western-established international hierarchies. It focuses on the Baltic efforts to gain visibility on the international stage and analyses the Baltic place in Russian and Western political imaginaries.
