Open Workshop by Professors from Karlstad University: How to publish in a leading peer reviewed journal (editor's perspective) & Exploring the retail environment through the senses

The aim of the Open Workshop Series in Business and Management Studies is to promote top-quality academic and applied research in various fields of the social sciences. This is a unique opportunity for sharing knowledge and networking with local and international community members.
Speakers: Prof. Martin Lofgren, Prof. Anders Gustafsson, Prof. Poja Shams, Karlstad University, Sweden
This workshop will have two parts. The first part will be devoted to the topic “How to publish in a leading peer reviewed journal: editor's perspective” Professor Gustafsson's talk (with contribution from Prof. Lofgren ad Prof. Shams) will be focused on publishing in major journals from a editor's perspective. The talk will cover common mistakes that authors do and some guidance on how to get through several rounds of reviews. Furthermore, presentation will cover method requirements for publishing in major journals and how these have changed over time.
In the second part of workshop, “Exploring the retail environment through the senses” will be presented, The presentation will mainly focus on how customers are influenced by what they see, smell and feel in the retail environment. The research has primarily involved measurements of eye movements and galvanic skin response. In the studies we explored the interaction between the mind and the environment in order to understand how these two components affect the decision for consumer goods. The results from the research point to a chain of events, from the first interaction with the environment to the purchase of a product, which can influence consumer behavior in the retail environment. The research has shed light on the decision making process and how scents, emotions and visual attention influences the choices we make in the store.
Dr. Anders Gustafsson is a professor of marketing at the Norwegian Business School and he is working part time at Service Research Center (www.ctf.kau.se) at Karlstad Business School in Sweden. Dr. Gustafsson is conducting research on customer satisfaction and loyalty, management of customer relationships, and consumer behavior. Most of his research is carried out in close collaboration with companies including grocery stores, sports stores and electronic stores as well some international companies such as Ikea, Ericsson, and Volvo.
He is the current editor in chief for Journal of Business Research and an area editor of Journal of Service Research. He is also the upcoming president for AMA’s academic council and will be responsible some of AMA’s major academic events in 2019/2020. Dr Gustafsson’s research has won the best paper award in journals such as Journal of Service Research and Journal of Service Management. Recently he received he received the Christopher Lovelock Career Contributions to the Services Discipline Award.
Dr. Martin Löfgren is the Head of Karlstad Business School at Karlstad University, Sweden and an Associate Professor in business administration. He earned his PhD in 2006 and became an associate professor in 2011. The focuses in his current research projects are on business models, service innovation, service infusion, in-store marketing, and reciprocation. Examples of journals his research has been published in are Journal of Service Management, Journal of Business Research, Public Management Review, Quality Management Journal, and Journal of Product and Brand Management. In total he has published 19 articles in peer-reviewed journals and serves as reviewer for several academic journals.
Dr. Poja Shams is assistant professor at Karlstad university, CTF, Service Research Center. His research has primarily been focused on consumer decision making and visual attention in the retail environment. His research has been awarded by the Gunnar Sundblad Research Foundation and published in several distinguished journals such as Journal of Business & Retail Management Research, Journal of Business Research and Psychology & Marketing.
