Media Hub Riga, an SSE Riga initiative, receives prestigious Local Human Rights Tulip Award 2023
Media Hub Riga, an initiative by SSE Riga, has received international acclaim, as one of the ten human rights defence projects globally, earning the Local Human Rights Tulip award 2023 from the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs for its dedicated work with media worker refugees.
Media Hub Riga is a collaborative effort by SSE Riga's Centre for Media Studies, the Sustainability Foundation, and the Baltic Centre for Media Excellence. It serves as a community for those who have fled from Ukraine, Belarus, and Russia, functioning as a hub where in addition to a safe physical office with podcast studios, meeting rooms and coworking space, journalists seeking refuge from the war's upheaval may also receive legal, practical, social and integration support. Since the onset of the war, more than 700 media professionals and their family members have received assistance through Media Hub Riga.
On December 14, Sabine Sile, the Co-founder of the Sustainability Foundation and Dace Lamberte, Director of the Centre for Media Studies, proudly received this esteemed award in The Hague, alongside other remarkable human rights defenders.
The Human Rights Tulip is an annual accolade supporting global human rights defenders in their crucial efforts. Since 2008, the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs has presented this award to outstanding human rights advocates.
