The course is available as an elective in the Bachelor's programme and is also open to participants outside the student community. Last year, the course received outstanding feedback from both students and industry professionals.


 

Course Details

The course will start in mid-March and is primarily intended for SSE Riga students, but an additional 40 spots will be available for other interested participants (more than half of the spots are already booked!)

The curriculum is designed based on local and international case studies and will cover key topics such as:

  • Introduction to Private Equity (PE) and Venture Capital (VC), their role in the economy;
  • Different PE and VC strategies, investment links to the business lifecycle;
  • Key differences between PE and VC in terms of investment practices, management, risk-return profiles, and valuation;
  • Investment evaluation methods, the acquisition and exit process, market assessment;
  • Legal aspects of fund formation and the fundraising process;
  • Case studies on PE and VC investments.

The course will be led by Mārtiņš Mellēns (BSc Class of 2005), one of the global leaders of McKinsey & Company's Private Equity Practice, in collaboration with guest lecturers from LVCA, BaltCap, Livonia Partners, Buildit, Change Ventures, BADideas.fund, and other key players in the Baltic market.

The course will be delivered in English.



Schedule & Location

The course consists of seven lectures, held at SSE Riga (Strēlnieku iela 4A) from 17:00 to 20:00 on the following dates: March 19, March 26, April 2, April 9, April 16, April 23, and May 7.
