Forum: Fight Against Smuggling - Challenges and Progress

The forum will be held on September 22 and will be broadcast live on portals delfi.lv and leta.lv at 13.00.
The latest SKDS study on Latvians’ attitudes and tolerance to smuggling, which reveals the general public opinion on the smuggling problem in the country, attitudes towards buying smuggled products, knowledge of places where smuggled goods can be bought, as well as possible penalties and actions to reduce smuggling, will be presented in the forum
Baiba Šmite-Roķe, deputy director of the Tax Directorate of the State Revenue Service, will introduce the participants of the forum to the current situation in the fight against smuggling of excise goods in Latvia, a representative of the State Police will tell about the current situation in the field of illegal production and trade, and tax expert, associated professor, Dr. oec. Māris Jurušs will present a survey on the illegal market of smokeless products.
The forum will also consider the latest surveys on the circulation and consumption of illegal cigarettes in Europe and Latvia.
The presentation will be followed by a discussion “Fight against smuggling and illegal production in Latvia - how to improve it?”, moderator Haralds Burkovskis.
The forum is organized by BASE (Business Against Shadow Economy) and SSE Riga in cooperation with SKDS.
