If you have not yet already started your application, we strongly encourage you to set aside some time and start to do so now! Below we present a quick overview of some reasons why to choose SSE Riga.
Our Reputation
Our three-year Bachelor’s programme in Economics and Business has been ranked by employers in Latvia as the most highly valued business and economics study programme.
As a close-knit community ‒ our size enables us to provide an individual approach and feedback. At SSE Riga every lecturer knows every student by name and puts a lot of thought and effort into helping each student to achieve their full potential.
Internships during studies (often offered by SSE Riga alumni companies) will prepare you for real life out there and the future job market. As an intern, you have the opportunity to get your foot in the door with a company.
Skills taught at SSE Riga are applicable in pretty much every job and will be a good base education. Our graduates work in all sorts of industries ‒ for example we have finance professionals, entrepreneurs, marketing and IT experts, movie directors, pilots, university lecturers, and architects, journalists, among others.
No other school in the region has such a close and influential alumni community. The relationship among 130-course-mates becomes very close and will not end after graduation.
Bachelor Programme in Economics and Business
Currently, SSE Riga has students from Latvia, Lithuania, Estonia, Sweden, Belarus, Ukraine, Moldova, Georgia, and Russia plus international exchange students from over 15 countries. Core resident faculty includes international academic personnel from Latvia, Lithuania, Australia, Hungary, Denmark, and France, while our Rector is a Swede.
Core courses combine mainstream economics with aspects of business. Over 50 courses are on offer. Among finance and economics courses you will learn essential future skills – critical thinking, data science and R programming language.
At the beginning of the final study year students choose two out of four specialisation courses on offer – Economics, Finance, Retail, Entrepreneurship.
Every student is able to take advantage of our mentorship programme provided by experienced SSE Riga alumni – who will offer practical advice on studies, career development and even starting your own business.
Besides, you can diversify your study experience by going on an exchange semester in the final study year. SSE Riga offers at least 40 destinations for an exchange semester, including Argentina, Hong Kong and the USA.
More than 10 student organizations are run by students themselves ‒ greatly adding to the academic experience.
Tuition Fee & Financial Aid
SSE Riga's tuition fee for the Bachelor programme is EUR 6,250 each year, but is reduced to EUR 4,150 each year for students from Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia.
More than two-thirds of SSE Riga students receive significant financial aid – there are many opportunities to apply for merit-based scholarships, special grants and corporate scholarships; and our alumni provide at least 20 scholarships for students.
In addition, the School offers a loan programme guaranteed by SSE Riga – which means no need to have parents or relatives to sign it. The amount of the loan is equal to the whole three years’ tuition fee.
You might find a university abroad offering free studies, but have you thought about the extra study costs ‒ application expenses, books, the physical implications? At SSE Riga there are no hidden costs. Once you are our student, privileges include attending free sports classes, joining the choir, taking part in different interest clubs ‒ plus all books, study materials and online databases here are provided at no extra charge. Even Office 365 and an online subscription to the Financial Times are available to every student at SSE Riga for free.
Another aspect to think about is living expenses. SSE Riga offers a comfortable housing option just 20mins by bus from the school with a monthly fee ranging from 100 - 160 EUR. Apartment rentals in Riga start from 300 euro/each month including utilities and wifi. The average 1-bedroom apartment rental varies depending on the city. According to Numbeo the average rental for a 1-bedroom apartment in the city centre differs by over 100%. Example: Riga - 386 EUR, Copenhagen 1210 EUR, Stockholm 1126 EUR, Rotterdam 1088 EUR.
Our experience shows that the average SSE Riga alumnus repays their loan covering the full cost of a degree with 20% of their net income within 6.5 years.
